ASHWOOD AREA ROCKHOUNDING

The Ashwood area is busting open with rock for the lapidarist and tumbler! The area's many private ranches each have their own unique deposits of agate, thundereggs, petrified wood, jasp-agate, and jasper. There are two commercial operations in the area as well. It's all in the book Gem Trails of Oregon but you won't find any specific information on the ranches and there are some old and no longer valid contacts. A good contact for collecting on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends is Darrell Friend at 541 489-3252.
