WHERE ARE ALL THE ROCKHOUNDS???

This is a GIS map of how many people have bought rock from me in the past five years or so. The numbers are customers per 100,000 people from the 2000 US Census.  As you can see the rockhounds in the Pacific Northwest are far more numerous than anywhere else in the country. Yes, this is biased since I am in Oregon and I assume since shipping is cheaper and more people are interested in NW rock from the NW than elsewhere in the country. Also, states with small populations are over-represented. In other words, a couple of customers from a small state like Vermont (sorry guys) make it look like there are a pile of rockhounds in VT. And the sample size is teeny relative to the population of the country. Anyway I thought it was interesting and besides I am procrastinating today :))

Here's the actual data if you are interested...

And I think this map is cool too. It shows the number of customers per 100,000 square miles for each state. Kind of like a "rockhound density map" lol. Go ahead, call me a GIS geek. See if I care :P
